Red Velvet Cake

Red Velvet Cake is a rich, fluffy, and exceptional red cake with an aroma of chocolate, topped with cream cheese frosting. Here is the recipe.

Ingredients for the Red Velvet Cake

  • 2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 egg yolks
  • 2 teaspoon red food colour
  • 1 tablespoon vinegar
  • 1 cup butter-milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup cocoa powder

Frosting for the Red Velvet Cake

  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 2 cups powder sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions:

  1. Heat the oven to 350°F (180°C). Grease three 9-inch (23 cm) round cake pans with flour.
  2. In a medium bowl, mix the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In a big mixing bowl, whisk the butter with an electric mixer until smooth. Add the eggs one at a time, beating thoroughly after each addition.
  4. Firstly, beat the sugar and butter. Otherwise, it will form a crusty layer on top.
  5. Gradually add dry ingredients into the butter mixture. Beat only until combined.
  6. Mix vanilla extract and cocoa powder.
  7. Mix vinegar, butter milk and red food colour. Add this mixture shortly before pouring into the moulds.
  8. Spread the batter evenly among the prepared pans, flat the tops.
  9. Bake for 30–35 minutes, or until inserted toothpick in the centre comes out clean. Allow to cool for 10 minutes in pans before shifting to a wire rack to finish setting.
  10. For the frosting, blend the cream cheese and butter, mix until smooth. Gradually add the powder sugar, blend until well combined. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  11. After the cakes have completely cool down place one layer on a serving platter and pour a thick layer of frosting on top. Repeat for the remaining layers.
  12. Frost the outside of the cake with the leftover icing.

Enjoy your tasty red velvet cake.
