Dunki (Review) – A good Entertainment for the Festive Season

Dunki is a rollercoaster of emotions, helmed by one of the finest directors of Hindi cinema, namely Rajkumar Hirani.
It’s stars Shahrukh Khan, Taapsee Pannu in lead roles. While Anil Grover, Vikram Kochar and Vicky Kaushal in supporting roles.

Dunki deals with the serious issue of illegal immigration narrated in an immensely entertaining manner. It can make you laugh out loud throughout the first and second half. The film lacks the typical Hirani magic here. Though a couple of dialogues hit hard yet I wished for more similar dialogues. For such a titled Dunki, the scenes featured like donkey route which gets skipped. But when it over soon, a kind of backfire created in the right impact.

Dunki would have been too dark and depressing if it remained just about the reaching to London illegally. It reveals the desire to go abroad for better future. But legal means are too difficult to follow which ultimately force the youngsters to opt for illegal immigration.

Shahrukh Khan’s acting is amazing but his Punjabi accent is quite irritating. Taapsee Pannu gives her best performance. She nails her part to perfection.
Vicky Kaushal Cameo is the show stealer. His performance in Dunki will be remembered for a long time. Vikram Kochar and Anil Grover are the surprise package.

The cinematography is a visual feast and the music album of Dunki is soulful. The situations perfectly suites what is going on in the storyline and the theme. My personal favourite songs are “O Mahi” by Arjit Singh, “Nikle the kabhi hum ghar se” by Sonu Nigam and “Chal ve Watna” by Javed Ali.

Overall, Dunki is a good entertainment for the festive season. It might not be Raju Hirani’s best, but you have to remember it still better than his other work.

My Rating: 3.5/5
